DENVER, CO — Today, Colorado Advocates for Rural Electrification (CARE), Colorado’s leading advocacy group for electric co-ops and rural electric communities, working to support affordable, reliable energy policies announced its endorsement of Michael Bennet in the Democratic Primary for Colorado Governor.
“Colorado Advocates for Rural Electrification is proud to support Michael Bennet in the Democratic Primary for Colorado Governor. Michael has long been a steadfast advocate for rural Colorado and understands that safe, reliable, and affordable electricity is essential,” said CARE Chairman Kevin Paddock. “As Colorado’s electric co-ops face unprecedented challenges with growing wildfire risk, rising costs, and increasing pressure on consumers, we trust Michael to partner with us and the communities we serve to fight for stronger, more affordable, and innovative policy.”
“I’m honored to earn the support of CARE and the electric co-ops that serve Colorado’s rural communities,” said Michael. “As Governor I will fight for an affordable, reliable future for every Coloradan. I’ve spent my career working with rural communities, electric co-ops, labor, and local leaders to lower costs, reinvest in rural Colorado, strengthen our energy security, and protect our public lands, water, and air. With the partnership of CARE, we can ensure Colorado continues to be a leader in energy innovation without leaving rural communities behind.”
Throughout his career, Michael has delivered major investments to strengthen Colorado’s energy infrastructure, lower costs for families, and support rural communities. He helped write the clean energy tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act, and secured provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that invested more than $4 billion in clean energy, climate resilience, forests, and clean air and water in Colorado. He also helped secure $3 billion for rural cooperatives throughout Colorado to transition to affordable, reliable clean energy.
Michael has released a comprehensive energy plan to lower costs for working families, strengthen Colorado’s grid, and invest in rural energy infrastructure. As Governor, he will also invest in forest health and wildfire mitigation to protect communities, ensure large energy users like data centers pay their fair share and secure a stronger, more affordable future for Colorado families.
