Bennet Campaign Calls on Weiser and Supporters to Stop Misleading Voters
DENVER, CO — In case you missed it, 9News’ Marshall Zellinger detailed misleading claims in a new ad from a Phil Weiser-aligned super PAC, which is funded in part by a former oil and gas executive and a private equity leader. Despite Weiser and his allies’ claims that Michael voted for more Trump nominees than “almost any other Democrat,” the fact check found that was not true, undercutting Phil Weiser’s sole argument against Michael Bennet.
The real truth: Michael voted against 95% of Trump nominees.
“For over a year, Phil Weiser and his supporters have run a campaign based on lies and exaggerations about Michael’s record,” said Nellie Moran, Bennet for Governor campaign manager. “Now, they’re hiding behind an ad that amplifies those false claims. Michael has fearlessly stood up to Donald Trump and his lawless Administration for years. It’s time for Phil and his team to stop the lies and debate the actual facts. He needs to demand his supporters take down this embarrassingly misleading ad.”
The fact check also found that an ad claiming Weiser joined fewer lawsuits than almost any other Democratic Attorneys General in the first Trump Administration was TRUE.
Read more about the inaccurate ad against Bennet from 9News’ Truth Test:
- The political action committee Fighting For Colorado has an ad attacking Bennet for his vote history with Trump nominees.
- AD CLAIM: “In fact, Michael Bennet voted to confirm nearly 200 Trump nominees, more than almost any other Democrat.”
- VERDICT: No.
- Even using a liberal definition of “more than almost any other Democrat” it is not accurate.
- And the group behind the ad provided an incomplete list of nominee votes.
- However, the list only included eight of Trump’s 23 cabinet members.
- The math is skewed because the list does not include the 15 times Bennet voted no where other Democratic senators voted yes.
- That can not be defined as voting to confirm “more than almost any other Democrat.”

- The political action committee Rocky Mountain Way has an ad airing attacking Weiser for his record on suing President Donald Trump during his first term.
- AD CLAIM: “Before he ran for governor, Weiser joined fewer lawsuits against Trump than almost any other Democratic attorney general in the country.”
- It’s true. 9NEWS’ research shows Weiser was not near the top of the list when it comes to Democratic attorneys general who sued Trump in his first term.
- Compare that to Trump’s second term, where Weiser is now part of 65 lawsuits against the administration. Colorado has joined most of those lawsuits led by other states.
- You can decide for yourself if he’s doing that because he’s now running for governor.
