Bennet for Governor Releases New Ads As Ballots Drop in Colorado

Michael Bennet Rounds Out Campaign on Positive Note as Phil Weiser Misleads Voters

DENVER, CO — Bennet for Governor today released two new ads highlighting Michael Bennet’s commitment to fighting for Colorado, standing up to Donald Trump, and shaking up the status quo. The two ads are part of a 7-figure ad buy running through the June 30 primary.

These ads hit the airwaves as Phil Weiser ends his campaign on a bitter note with two desperate, misleading ads. The difference in this race couldn’t be more clear: Michael Bennet has a positive, forward looking vision to tackle Colorado’s toughest challenges. Phil Weiser is focused on slinging mud and misleading voters.

The first ad features Joe Neguse, Jason Crow, and Brittany Pettersen discussing their experiences working with Michael to stand up against Donald Trump’s chaos and deliver real results for Colorado.

Rep. Joe Neguse: “Time and again, we’ve seen Michael Bennet fight for Colorado.”

Rep. Jason Crow: “He stood up to Donald Trump, leading the fight against ICE.”

Rep. Brittany Pettersen: “Michael has the experience and the ideas to move our state forward.”

Rep. Jason Crow: “We trust Michael.”

Rep. Brittany Pettersen: “We trust Michael.”

Rep. Joe Neguse: “We trust Michael. He’s the Governor we need right now.”

The second ad features President Barack Obama’s public comments advocating for Michael that still ring true today, highlighting Michael’s fresh approach to taking on tough challenges – exactly what Colorado needs in their next Governor.

Michael is the only candidate running for Governor with a plan to launch a public option for health insurance to drive down costs, ensure no working Coloradan pays more than 30% of their income on housing, and put a real cap on pollution or make corporations pay to invest in clean energy solutions through cap-and-invest.

“You’ve got to have more leaders like Michael Bennet.

Michael is not afraid to bring a fresh approach to tough challenges.

Because he knows the old ways of doing business just won’t do.

The only agenda Michael has is yours.

And Colorado, that’s precisely the type of leader he’s going to continue to be.”

Michael Bennet served as a National Co-Chair of President Obama’s re-election in 2012, and, working together, Michael and President Obama consistently delivered for Colorado. As Governor, Michael will continue to stand strong and produce results for Colorado.

Read more about Michael’s work with President Obama:

Michael was the deciding vote to pass Obamacare, even risking his election to support the reform: Michael was quoted on CNN: “If you get to the final point and you are a critical vote for health care reform and every piece of evidence tells you if you support the bill you will lose your job, would you cast the vote and lose your job?” CNN’s John King asked Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado on Sunday’s State of the Union. “Yes,” Bennet bluntly and simply replied. [Colorado Pols Covering CNN Interview 2009]

A New Veterans Cemetery for Colorado: Michael introduced legislation with Senator Udall to create a new veterans cemetery in Colorado. In 2010, President Obama’s budget request included language that reduced the population threshold used to determine where new national veterans cemeteries could be built from 170,000 to 80,000 veterans living within 75 miles of a potential site. This language, which followed a meeting Bennet held with then-VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, allowed the VA to build a cemetery in southern Colorado.

Michael worked with President Obama and local leaders to protect Chimney Rock: Michael worked with local communities to build public support for a presidential declaration establishing the monument and successfully persuaded the President to declare Chimney Rock a national monument under the authority of the Antiquities Act in September 2012.  [KUNC 2012]

Protected Orion Project: In April 2010, Senators Udall and Bennet wrote a letter to President Obama requesting continued funding for the Constellation program and met with NASA Administrator Bolden to make the case for continuing the Orion project.  Later that month, President Obama announced that he would not request the cancellation of funding for Orion.  . Delivering Dollars to Colorado to Support Disaster Recovery: Michael was able to work with the Obama Administration to deliver more than $1 billion in flood recovery support to help Colorado communities recover after the devastating 2013 floods. Michael also worked with the Obama Administration to provide emergency relief in response to the Waldo Canyon Fire (2012) and Black Forest Fire (2013).

Michael worked with President Obama and local leaders to Protect Browns Canyon: “Sen. Michael Bennet said President Barack Obama will make the declaration Thursday, using his authority under the Antiquities Act of 1906. Late last year, Bennet, Udall and Gov. John Hickenlooper appealed directly to the president to protect the canyon about 140 miles southwest of Denver.” [CPR 2/2015]
