DENVER, CO â Following the release of Phil Weiserâs first campaign ad, the Bennet for Governor campaign released the following statement:
Bennet for Governor campaign manager, Nellie Moran:
âMore than a year into his campaign, Attorney General Weiser still fails to offer any vision for Coloradoâs future. We canât sue our way to more affordable housing, better health care, or an education system that serves every kid. Coloradans deserve their next Governor to offer concrete solutions to their most pressing issues, not just a read out of their political achievements.Â
But letâs be clear about what the ad isnât telling Coloradans: under Weiser, Colorado sat out over 70% of the lawsuits against the Trump Administration during his first term â including a lawsuit that wouldâve prevented the prolonged detention of children in immigration custody. 20 other Democratic Attorneys General joined that case, and Weiser refused to speak up for those immigrant kids because it wasnât politically popular to do so. Â
But now that he is running for Governor, heâs joined more than 80% of lawsuits and has only led 2 of them. Thatâs not leading, thatâs following when itâs politically convenient. Colorado deserves a true leader that shows up when it matters, not just when theyâre running for their next job. Michael Bennet has shown up for Coloradans every single day, and thatâs why Coloradans are backing him to be our next Governor.âÂ
Philâs ad says âhe always stands up to bullies.â But his record says otherwise. Here are the facts:
CLAIM:Â Phil Weiser says âhe always stands up to bullies â especially Donald Trump.â
FACT CHECK:Â FALSE
THE TRUTH:Â Phil Weiserâs lawsuits are a shallow story of political convenience
- Under Weiserâs tenure, Colorado only joined 27.6% of multistate lawsuits against the Trump Administration in Trumpâs first term.
- After launching his gubernatorial campaign in January 2025, Weiserâs office has joined 82.7% of multistate lawsuits against the Trump Administration during Trumpâs second term.
- Phil Weiser has actually only led 2 lawsuits against the Trump Administration, and simply added his name to the rest. Thatâs not leading, thatâs following.
- Notably, in 2019, 20 Democratic Attorneys General joined a lawsuit to stop the Trump Administrationâs âprolonged detentionâ of children in immigration custody.
- Phil Weiser, as Attorney General of Colorado, refused to join the vast majority of his Democratic colleagues in standing up for immigrant kids against Donald Trumpâs cruelty.
CLAIM:Â Phil Weiser says he takes on âgreedy corporations”
FACT CHECK:Â FALSE
THE TRUTH:Â He lets his corporate donors off easy
- As Chair of the Attorney General Alliance, Phil Weiser courted tens of thousands of dollars in donations from lobbyists and corporate partners. Comcast and TurboTax were two prominent donors to the Attorney General Alliance.
- Phil Weiserâs Attorney General Office had active litigation with both Comcast and TurboTax at the time, which ended with settlements.
- Corporations like Google, Facebook, Juul, Pfizer â all of which were in active litigation with Weiserâs office â paid for Weiser and other AGs to attend a âlavishâ retreat in Hawaii.
- At the time, Weiser was âunwilling to go on camera and defend its funding from corporations and lobbyist organizations.â
- Individuals associated with corporations involved in active litigation with Weiserâs Office donated directly to his campaigns in 2022 and in 2026.
- After receiving more than $40,000 in campaign contributions from employees associated with Dish Network, Weiserâs Attorney General Office âtreated [Dish Network] differently in probes.â
Michael has been on the front lines fighting against Donald Trumpâs chaos for the past decade, leading the charge against Trumpâs dangerous nominees like RFK Jr. and Pete Hegseth, winning the fight to stop the sell off of Colorado public lands, and holding ICE accountable. And unlike his opponent, Michael has never been afraid to show real leadership and stand up for Coloradans when they need it most, regardless of the political consequences. He was the first national Democrat to say Joe Biden would lose the 2024 election in a landslide, he was one of the only statewide elected officials to stand up against the billionaires trying to change Colorado elections through Prop 131, and he was the only statewide elected official to push back on Suncorâs operating permit in the face of whistleblower complaints.
