DENVER, CO — Today, Bennet for Governor released a new TV ad highlighting Michael’s commitment to standing up to Donald Trump’s attacks on immigrant communities and protecting families from federal overreach. The ad underscores Michael’s long track record of fighting Donald Trump and ICE abuses and his commitment as Governor to defend the rule of law.
“Donald Trump’s war on immigrants is an attack on all our fundamental rights,” Michael says in the ad. “As governor, I’ll use every tool I can to stop Trump. We’ll prosecute federal agents who violate the law, block new detention centers from being built, and require judicial warrants and body cameras.”

Michael has spent his entire career fighting to fix our country’s broken immigration system and fight against Trump’s lawlessness. As Superintendent of Denver Public Schools, he worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Denver families to pass legislation to give DREAMers access to the same opportunities as every other Colorado kid. In the Senate, he was part of the Gang of 8 that wrote and passed comprehensive immigration reform legislation in the Senate.
In the first Trump Administration, Michael introduced legislation against Trump’s horrific family separation policies at the border. At the same time, his opponent, Phil Weiser, was nowhere to be seen, refusing to join the majority of Democratic Attorneys General in litigation to put an end to these policies.
Now, Michael is leading the charge to hold Trump’s lawless DHS and ICE accountable. He called for the resignation of Kristi Noem, refused funding for DHS and ICE and proposed critical reforms to immigration enforcement.
