Michael Bennet Launches Build for the Future Agenda

Comprehensive Agenda Focuses on Housing, Transportation, and Affordable Energy to Lower Costs and Strengthen Colorado’s Future

DENVER, CO — Today, Colorado gubernatorial candidate Michael Bennet announced his Build for the Future Agenda, a comprehensive plan to ensure Colorado’s growth is healthy, sustainable, and affordable by expanding housing supply, modernizing transportation, and investing in clean, reliable energy.

“Coloradans in every corner of the state are paying more for housing, transportation, and energy, and too many are facing the sobering reality that their kids may not be able to afford to build a life here,” said Michael Bennet. “As Colorado continues to grow, we cannot afford to continue with small politics or half measures. As Governor, I will take a bold, comprehensive approach to housing, transportation, and energy policy to lower costs today and ensure Colorado leads the country in building the affordable, reliable, and clean future our kids are relying on.”

In Colorado, rising costs of housing, transportation, and energy are squeezing working families and forcing them to move further from their jobs and communities. Michael believes taking a comprehensive approach to these policies is the only way to tackle our affordability challenges and make the economy work for working people at the scale and speed Coloradans deserve.

Michael’s Build for the Future Agenda will:.

  1. Build More Homes Working Coloradans Can Afford: Michael will surge housing statewide so no Coloradan is forced to pay more than 30% of their income to housing. He will reduce costs and cut red tape to make it easier to build housing working Coloradans can afford across the state. Read Michael’s full housing plan here.
  2. Integrate Transit and Transportation to Build Infrastructure that Works Today and for the Future: Michael will ensure Colorado’s transportation infrastructure makes it faster, cheaper, and easier for Coloradans to get where they need to go. He will fix the roads that rural Coloradans, urban Coloradans, and our transit system rely on. He will also invest in transit options across Colorado, improve road safety, and expand collaboration with regional partners. Read Michael’s full transportation plan here.
  3. Build an Affordable, Reliable, and Clean Energy Future: Michael will ensure Colorado continues to lead on energy innovation by implementing a statewide strategy to power an affordable and reliable energy grid. He will expand clean energy options, defend Colorado against Trump’s “drill, baby, drill” agenda, and ensure large energy users, like data centers, pay their fair share. In coordination with his Cap-and-Invest strategy to cap emissions in our state, his energy plan will help Colorado make real progress on our net-zero emissions goals while cutting costs for working Coloradans. Read Michael’s full energy plan here.

Michael’s Build for the Future Agenda, crafted in partnership with Coloradans across the state, builds on Michael’s plans to cut costs for Coloradans on everything from housing to child care to health care to build an economy that works for working families.
