Bennet remains the only candidate with the support of major labor unions
DENVER, CO – Today, UAW Region 4 Midwest States Political Action Committee (UAW) and Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) endorsed Michael Bennet for Colorado Governor. UAW and TWU join the Colorado Professional Firefighters, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers State Conference, and United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters State Conference in supporting Michael’s campaign, cementing Michael as the candidate who will stand up for working people in Colorado. Michael is the only candidate running for Governor with the support of major labor unions in Colorado.
“I’m running for Governor to fight back against Donald Trump’s chaos and fight for an economy that actually works for working people, and I am honored to earn the support of these labor unions,” said Michael. “A century ago, the labor movement ushered in a new era of protections to working people. Today, as we fight against a new Gilded Age, it’s clear that labor will continue to lead that fight. I’m honored to have the support of both UAW and TWU, and I know that together we will take on the lies and broken promises of Trumpism, and build a new future that delivers economic opportunity and dignity for working families.”
“UAW Region 4 Midwest States Political Action Committee is proud to endorse Michael Bennet for Governor of Colorado,” said UAW Region 4 Midwest States CAP Council. “Michael doesn’t just talk about labor, he acts on it: standing with striking UAW workers in Colorado and leading the charge to protect workers’ rights. He understands that our economy should serve those who build it – not just those who benefit from it – and we are confident he will bring that same relentless fight to the Governor’s Office.”
“Colorado needs a leader who doesn’t just talk about working people, but delivers for working people,” said Jamie Simpson, TWU Colorado State Conference Chairperson. “That’s why the Transport Workers Union of America is proud to endorse Michael Bennet for Colorado Governor. Michael has proven he has the backbone to take on the tough fights and do what’s right for Colorado workers. As our next Governor, Michael will put working people first and deliver the Colorado we deserve.”
Today’s announcement underscores Michael’s deep support among labor unions across the state. Michael has long been a fierce advocate for organized labor. In the Senate, he is a sponsor of the PRO Act, which would strengthen the rights of workers to organize and collectively bargain, and the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would bolster protections against wage discrimination. Most recently, he joined the Protect America’s Workforce Act, which would restore collective bargaining to federal workers that was revoked under Donald Trump.
With the support of more than 200 Colorado leaders and organizations, Michael has built the type of coalition that not only wins elections, but delivers real change.
