Five Former Governors Endorse Michael Bennet for Colorado Governor

From Governors to Senators: Leaders Who Know the Job Best Support Michael Bennet

Denver, CO — Today, five former governors and current U.S. Senators announced their endorsement of Michael Bennet for Colorado Governor. Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Angus King (I-ME), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Mark Warner (D-VA) —all of whom have served as governors—join Senator John Hickenlooper, Colorado’s former governor, in backing Bennet’s campaign.

“I’m honored to have the support of these former governors, who know better than anyone the responsibility and opportunity of this office. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside them in the Senate to expand opportunity, protect our democracy, and build a stronger future for the next generation. I’m ready to bring the same commitment and results home to Colorado as Governor,” said Michael Bennet.

These endorsements underscore Michael’s reputation as a leader who puts families and kids first, works across divides, and delivers real solutions—qualities that those who have held the governor’s office know are essential to success.

“From my time serving as Governor, I know how important it is to listen, build consensus, and work towards real solutions for our communities. And from my time serving in the Senate alongside Michael Bennet, I know firsthand that he consistently stands up and delivers for the people he serves. Colorado will be in good hands with him as Governor,” said Senator Maggie Hassan.

“Michael is a tireless reformer. He doesn’t accept a problem as it is—he looks at it from every angle and works to fix it. As a former Governor, I know that’s essential to doing this job, and that he will deliver for Coloradans,”  said Senator Tim Kaine.

“When you’re governor, you quickly learn to find common ground to get things done. Michael Bennet gets that. In the Senate, I have watched him push past polarization to deliver results for Colorado and families across the country. I’m proud to endorse him as Colorado’s next Governor,” said Senator Angus King.

“I’m thrilled to endorse Michael Bennet for Governor of Colorado. Having been a governor, I know how tough the job is — and Michael has what it takes. He isn’t afraid to ask the big questions, listen to different perspectives, and work with others to get things done. Colorado is lucky to have his leadership,” said Senator Mark Warner.

“I know what it takes to succeed in this job, and I know Michael Bennet. His values, and his experience are exactly what Colorado needs. As Senator, Michael showed strength and courage in defending Colorado from Donald Trump. He protected tens of thousands of acres of Colorado public lands, and helped take major steps to fight climate change,” said Senator John Hickenlooper. “Michael will build on this work to shield Colorado from Trump’s corruption, create economic opportunity for every Coloradan and protect the environment. I think Michael has the potential to be a truly great governor- I wholeheartedly endorse his campaign.”

With these endorsements, Michael has earned the support of some of the nation’s most respected leaders who know firsthand what it takes to govern effectively. Yesterday, Michael also received the endorsement of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, which represents more than 1,200 attorneys across the state who advocate for fairness and accountability in the civil justice system.
