Building Opportunity for Colorado

Priorities

Michael is running for Governor to provide more opportunity to every Coloradan – that means more affordable housing and health care; building a 21st-century public education system; and making it easier for small businesses to thrive. In Colorado, we can build a brighter future – a future focused on the well-being of all of us, not just the few.

As Colorado’s Governor, Michael will work to

Make Colorado More Affordable

Michael believes that hard work should pave the way to an affordable, middle-class life in Colorado. As Governor, Michael will work with Colorado communities to make housing, health care, childcare, and transportation more affordable. He will work in partnership with local governments and the private sector so that Coloradans at every income have housing options that allow them to live near where they work, and continue his fight to bring down health care costs.

Increase Access to Health Care

Michael believes that all Coloradans have a right to universal access to health care and mental health care. As Colorado’s Governor, he will fight to protect Colorado’s Medicaid funding and seek bold solutions to expand access to health care and mental health care. He will also continue to be an unwavering champion for reproductive rights, and stand up against any Trump Administration action that infringes on Colorado’s constitutional right to choose.

Build an Excellent Education and Workforce System

Michael believes Colorado can lead the nation by creating a 21st-century education system that provides opportunity for all, whether you choose to attend college or not. As Governor, Michael will lead Colorado’s effort to build educational opportunities to empower everyone to get ahead, no matter where they live, and to ensure that all Coloradans graduate high school with the skills they need for a good living. He will work with Colorado’s business community and higher education institutions to train our workers with the skills they need to fill critical, high-paying jobs in industries, such as IT, health care, biotechnology, aerospace, manufacturing, and financial services.

Promote Broad-Based Economic Growth

As Governor, Michael will work with Colorado’s small businesses to make it easier for them to start, grow, and stay in Colorado. Michael will work to cut red tape, attract investment to our state, and close Colorado’s skills gap. He will partner with Colorado’s private and public sectors to make Colorado the best place in America to work. As he has in the Senate, Michael will continue fighting for rural communities as they build vibrant local economies. He will continue to invest in Colorado’s infrastructure – from water and energy to transportation, rail and buses, and broadband – so that it not only serves Colorado today but in the future as well. Critical to our economic growth is making sure Coloradans are secure at home, work, and school. Michael will work with law enforcement and all our communities to make sure they have the resources, training, and oversight they need to keep us safe.

Lead The Clean Energy Transition and Manage Our Water Resources

Climate change is changing how we plan for the future, and Colorado is already leading the national response to this challenge. As Governor, Michael will continue to build on this leadership through e a common-sense, responsible approach to our energy transition that meets our emission targets and keeps energy affordable. Michael will also protect Colorado’s long-term interests on the Colorado River while working with communities across the state to manage our water resources in a way that sustains thriving towns and cities and a robust agricultural economy.

Protect Colorado’s Great Outdoors

Colorado’s economy is built on our commitment to our public lands. As he has in the Senate, Michael will work with communities to support the health of our forests and watersheds, and respond to and recover from catastrophic wildfires. Michael will collaborate with communities and landowners to foster growth while protecting our Western landscapes and wildlife habitat. Under Michael’s leadership, Colorado will become the gold standard for new ideas and bold investments to support our parks, public lands, and outdoor economy.

Advocate for Colorado’s National Guard, Veterans, and Military Families

Colorado is home to 400,000 veterans and thousands of military servicemembers and national guardsmen dedicated to serving and protecting our state and country.  As Governor, Michael will fight to make sure Colorado’s National Guard has the training facilities and equipment it needs. He believes Colorado should be the best state in America for veterans to live in and will ensure veterans and their families have access to health care, mental health care, housing, and employment opportunities.

Standing Up To President Trump and Strengthening Colorado’s Democracy

In the Senate, Michael is standing up to Donald Trump for his reckless actions that harm our economy and democracy. Michael has challenged Trump’s dangerous, unqualified nominees. He has stood up for our democratic values here at home and abroad, especially as Ukraine fights for its survival, and he is fighting against Trump’s disastrous plan to take away Coloradans’ healthcare to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy.

Michael believes Colorado can lead the country not only by fighting back against President Trump’s damaging policies but recommitting to and strengthening our own civic infrastructure and political discourse. As Governor, Michael will bring people together from across the state – whether they vote for him or not – to create a collaborative political environment to build a better future for our children and grandchildren.
